Thailand’s voters have spoken – overwhelmingly!!!
They have voted for the party of the sister of ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who has vowed to reconcile the deeply divided nation.
Which raises the inevitable question for a travel blog such as the “Accidental Travel Writer”, with so many readers that frequently visit Thailand: is it safe to travel to the Land of Smiles?
At 44 years of age, Yingluck Shinawatra – who, if she decides to give up politics could consider a modeling career (she is arguably even better looking than Thailand’s current prime minister, the extremely dapper Abhisit Vejajiva) – will become the nation’s first female prime minister.
Assuming, of course, that the courts don’t intervene, the army doesn’t stage a coup, and the Yellow Shirts don’t shut down the nation’s airports.
Red Shirts
We’ re further assuming, of course, that the Red Shirts won’t march on Bangkok, occupying key sections of the city, forcing the closure of hotels, and setting shopping malls on fire – as they did last year.
Unless, of course, any of the aforementioned three scenarios takes place. In which case, you can bet your bottom baht that the Red Shirts will do something similar – unless they can think up something even more exciting.
Never a dull moment in Thailand. Perhaps that is one of the reasons we like it so much! Should we book our airline tickets and reserve our hotel rooms now?
