Terminal 2 at Hong Kong International Airport has sometimes been described as a shopping mall with an airport attached.
But a theme park?
As the saying goes, only in Hong Kong!
Hong Kong International Airport has teamed up with the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort to promote tourism on the island of Lantau, which both of them share. If you are not familiar with Hong Kong geography, Lantau is one of the more than 200 islands that comprise the former British Crown Colony (along with the Kowloon Peninsula and the New Territories).
And geographically speaking, it is larger than Hong Kong Island itself!
But I digress …
Unlimited Summer Fun Package
Together, Hong Kong International Airport and Hong Kong Disneyland have launched an “Unlimited Summer Fun Package,” which is already on sale and runs through 31 August 2011.
Priced at HK$399, it can be redeemed through 15 September 2011 for visits to Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and attractions at Hong Kong International Airport’s Terminal 2 – as well as offering other shopping and dining privileges, which were not revealed in the press release. Â
“Hong Kong Disneyland continuously seeks opportunities to join hands with representatives of the tourism industry to launch a wide range of entertainment and shopping offers for guests,” says Hong Kong Disneyland Resort’s Vice President of Public Affairs, B.C. Lo.
“This is the first time the Resort has partnered with Hong Kong International Airport to present a promotion plan for local residents and all inbound visitors. We believe that this cooperation will help enhance Lantau’s role as a leisure and entertainment tourist destination.” Â
Gateway for Travelers
Adds Albert Yau, General Manager of Retail and Advertising for Airport Authority Hong Kong: “Hong Kong International Airport is an important gateway for travelers to connect to the world. Through close cooperation with the tourism industry, we have been promoting the development of Hong Kong’s tourism in the Lantau Island.
“In joining hands with Hong Kong Disneyland, we are offering locals and tourists around the world a special package for their leisure enjoyment at two of the most popular attractions on the island. This will help reinforce Lantau’s position as a preferred travel destination.”
And the Lucky Winners Are …
The Tunbridge family of Hong Kong has won an Unlimited Summer Fun Package – and Duffy, the Disney Bear.
“We are very excited to receive this package as it enables our whole family to enjoy a visit to Hong Kong Disneyland and attractions of the airport such as the 4-D Cinema,” say Richard and Sharon Tunbridge (were they speaking in unison?).
“The kids even want to go to the airport now!”
Up Close and Personal
Okay, I’m sorry, but I don’t understand that last comment!!!
When I was a kid, I used to LOVE going to the airport! I thought it was the coolest place in town! I loved watching the planes land and take off! I loved watching the passengers board and disembark! I loved watching them check in! I loved watching them claim their luggage. . .
And I would fantasize about the exotic places they were going to (or returning from).
Oh, well. Maybe it was just me …
