Kyoto is the site of Starwood’s first Luxury Collection Hotel in Japan. Overlooking a river, the ryokan style property is located in the hills amid bamboo groves and cherry trees, occupying part of a historic temple.
Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide opens its first Luxury Collection hotel in Japan, a ryokan style property set in the hills of Western Kyoto.
Set amid bamboo groves and cherry trees, the hotel has a view of the Hozugawa River. It occupies part of the grounds of Tenryuki Temple, which was built in the 15th century.
Included in its grounds are 2 heritage structures, Enmei-kaku, which was built in 1899, and Hasshoken, which was built in 1910.
The hotel has 39 rooms running from 500 to 1,000 square feet. There are 2 private treatment rooms with Japanese style open air baths as well as 2 food and beverage outlets, a fine dining restaurant and a cafe serving Japanese cuisine focusing on green tea.
The historic city of Kyoto is one of Japan’s most important travel destinations. A former capital, it is scattered with 1,600 Buddhist temples and 400 Shinto shrines, including 17 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
