Oklahoma City Thunder Team History
The Oklahoma Thunder are a professional basketball team in the United States.
The Thunder compete in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference of the National Basketball League (NBA).
So how does a team located in the South Central United States end up in the Northwest Division of the NBA? That has something to do with the team’s history.
The basketball franchise was established in 1967. Originally, the team was based in Seattle, Washington, which is in the Pacific Northwest. Consequently, it was called the Seattle SuperSonics.
Most importantly, the franchise won the NBA championship in 1979, when the team still played in Seattle.

In 2008, the basketball team relocated to Oklahoma City ,Oklahoma. Because of the move, it was renamed the Oklahoma City Thunder. Despite the move, the team remains in NBA’s Northwestern Division.
The Thunder have won 11 division titles. In addition, the team has won four conference titles.
