My Lunch at Coin Pop
For lunch the week I visited, Coin Pop was offering two lunchtime specials: starter + main course + dessert; or, for the more budget conscious: starter + main course or main course + dessert.
I opted for the main course plus dessert as I was rather peckish from all my walking and wanted to delve immediately into my main course, while enjoying a little sweet indulgence afterwards.
My Main Course

For my main course, I chose the Filet Mignon with Potatoes au Gratin and a small salad.
The filet was perfect – flavorful yet with incredible tenderness. The sauce brought out the richness of the meat, without overpowering your tastebuds.
The gratin dauphinois – a light crispy topping of Gruyere cheese, with only the slightest hint of browning. The potatoes themselves were sliced paper thin, soaked in a garlic-infused cream sauce, and layered into a baking dish.
Gratin dauphinois is named after the Dauphiné region of France and is enjoyed worldwide, colloquially known as “Potatoes au Gratin.”
The entrée also included a small yet adequate spring greens salad, coated in only the slightest amount of dressing—just enough to enhance the flavors without overwhelming them. Everything was presented with a delicate touch, more like a light shawl a lady would casually drape over her shoulders on a cool spring evening.
The meal included a bread basket with a baguette. The bread had a robust crunchy outer crust, protecting the inner soft richness contained inside.
My Dessert at Coin Pop

For dessert, I chose the Délice au Citron, Chantilly Légère—a lemon custard topped with light whipped cream.
The lemon custard was thick, creamy, and infused with the bright tartness of lemons. Neither the custard nor light whipped cream were overtly saccharine – quite the opposite!
The flavors danced across my tongue in an exotic balance of sweet, tart, and smoothness. The taste lingered, inviting me to relish this moment, the way the sun lingers each day during summer.
The Ambiance & Service
As if the verdant green plants, artwork, and vibrant textured toss pillows visible through the gracious windows were not enough to make you feel welcome, the staff were authentically attentive yet relaxed, offering recommendations with genuine enthusiasm.
None of them had professional culinary backgrounds. It was their passion for good food and the love of others that brought them together in creating the sort of place where conversations flowed easily, and each dish was crafted with affectionate care.
With such dedication, the staff is the reason why Le Coin Pop is one of the hidden gems amongst the crown jewels of Paris.
The Verdict
The two cooks came out when I was leaving and were grateful for my compliments. For the food, atmosphere, and service, I would have to give Coin Pop an enthusiastic two thumbs up. What a great start to my month in the City of Light!

What Arrondisement is Oberkampf in?
Oberkampf in is in the 11th Arrondisement!
I like the sound of both Oberkampf, with its Indie shops, and Coin Pop. A great change of pace from the more touristy areas of Paris.
Me, too! When we were discussing his trip, Erik told me that see wanted to experience the “real” Paris, avoiding the beaten tourism track as much as possible. When I go, I want to do the same!
What an incredible lunch-filet mignon AND lemon custard! I’ll definitely visit the Oberkampf neighborhood on my next visit to Paris.
Erik specifically wanted to stay in a non-touristy part of the city, and it seems to have been a good strategy as he got to experience a more genuine slice of Parisian life.
The lunch looks delicious!
I think so too!
The only downside is, the fares are VERY expensive.
