Ang Ku Tea House is one of four food and beverage outlets at the Proud Phuket, a four star hotel in the Southern Thai island of Phuket.
Named after Phuketean celebration cakes, the informal eatery serves breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner in delightful surroundings.
The tea house serves Western-inspired and fusion dishes running from organic salads and creamy soups to lights snacks, pasta dishes, grilled meats, freshly caught seafood, and local snacks.
Yai Yai Kitchen
On the first day of my two-night hosted stay at Proud Phuket, I had the buffet breakfast at Yai Yai Kitchen, where most of the guests staying at the hotel have their morning repast.

The Decadent Pastries …
On my second day, I decided to eat at Ang Ku Tea House, where I was about the only person dining in the place at that time. Business usually picks up in the afternoon and evening.
Ang Ku Tea House prides itself on its pastries, and based on what I sampled, the pastry chef is indeed very talented!
The red pineapple pastries were highly recommended, and I decided to give one a try. I washed it down with a cup of the cafe’s excellent house coffee.
OMG! I liked the pastry so much, I couldn’t resist having another. And I washed it down with another a cup of the cafe’s excellent house coffee!
I liked the ambiance of the tea house so much, I spent much of the sweltering afternoons hanging out there and working on my blog.
The Yummy Food …
I usually had something simple at lunch followed by multi-course meals at dinner.
There was a special promotion at the tea house on my first night, so I gave it a try. An all-you-can-eat buffet was set up on buffet tables outside.
There was a mouthwatering spread, with salads, grilled meats, grilled seafood, and desserts.
I dined on the terrace overlooking the sidewalk. Unfortunately, it was dark, and my pictures didn’t turn out.
On my second night, I dined indoors, starting dinner with a glass of Chardonnay, which was served in a well-chilled glass.
My first course was a yummy cream soup.
I moved on to the very satisfying prawn cocktail, which was served with a creamy dipping sauce. It was a bit like thousand island dressing only spicier and with much more depth.
My main course consisted of a yummy piece of grilled meat served over pasta and accompanied by a garden salad.
The Friendly Staff …
The staff were exceptionally friendly. Is it because this is a family-run hotel? I didn’t feel like I was staying at a hotel.
I really was made to feel like a guest in someone’s home!
The Charming Ambiance …
The hotel’s distinctive orange and white colour scheme was carried out in the lobby, spa, guest rooms, and food-and-beverage outlets.
There were lots of Chinese touches, which made me think: Shanghai Tang meets Zhang Yimou!
The theme extended to the Ang Ku Tea House, with some very distinctive modern touches.
I understand that many guests at other hotels often hang out at the tea house after checking out and waiting for flights to depart from Phuket International Airport, which is a five minutes drive away.
I can understand why! It was a VERY comfortable and welcoming place to hang out!
Fortunately, despite the hotel’s proximity to the airport, is not in the airport’s flight path, so it is very quiet.
The Verdict …
My stay at Proud Phuket was the highlight of my seven night visit to Phuket, and hanging out and dining at Ang Ku Tea House played a large part in that.
I’ll give it two enthusiastic thumbs up for food, service, and ambiance!
