Food and Beverage
Reporting live from Foshan, China, which is located near Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province.
It is my first visit to Foshan, and getting here took longer – and was a bit more complicated – than I had expected.
Following lunch in Shatin, which is situated in Hong Kong’s New Territories, I set off for the Chinese border at 3 pm. I was expecting it to take me three hours to get to the hotel. In the end, it took me four.
Which is not bad. It took my companion five hours to get here – and he left from a station 25 minutes closer to the border than I did!
Brazilian Barbecue
I attended a poolside cocktail party last night (more on that in a future post). Tonight I had dinner at Olé Olé, a traditional Brazilian barbecue restaurant, which is located in the InterContinental Foshan, where I am spending three nights.
And what a spread!
Olé Olé serves fresh off the spit meats that are served Brazilian style by waiters that bring them to your table on swords. In addition to 10 types of meat (sirloin steak, roast beef, and grilled pork were best) are grilled corn, grilled pineapple, and grilled bananas.
There are also buffet tables serving hot Brazilian dishes (including feijoada, the national favourite), salads, desserts, and pasta that is prepared to order.
There is live music six nights a week, between 7 pm and 9 pm in the restaurant and from 10 pm and 12 midnight in the bar.
Unique Ambiance
“Many of the guests like the ambiance,” says Peter Paul, Restaurant Senior Supervisor, InterContinental Foshan.
“It’s the first time they’ve seen a hotel restaurant like this. It’s different from other hotels in China.”
Open for dinner only, Olé Olé is located on Level 6 of the InterContinental Foshan. Buffet dinners run 188 yuan plus.
