4. Jack Doyle’s Pub & Restaurant
Named after Jack Doyle (1869 – 1958), an Irish-American first baseman, who was born in Killorglin, Ireland, and emigrated to the U.S. when he was a child. His family made their home in Holyoke, Massachusetts.
Jack played baseball for nearly seven decades, and he was a very popular athlete, playing for several Major League teams, including the New York Giants, Baltimore Orioles, Philadelphia Phillies, and Washington Senators.
Because of his aggressive style, he was nicknamed “Dirty Jack”.
He often argued with umpires, and on one occasion, he actually slugged an umpire.
