The Cincinnati Reds are a professional baseball team in United States. And the Reds compete in the Central division of the National League (NL) of Major League Baseball (MLB).

But the team has an illustrious and somewhat confusing history.

Firstly, the Cincinnati Red Stockings were a forerunner of the Cincinnati Reds. In fact, they were the first openly all-professional baseball team.

Moreover, they competed in the National Association of Base Ball players from 1867 to 1880.

However, the current Cincinnati Reds were established in 1881, and they initially called themselves the Cincinnati Red Stockings. But in 1889, they changed their name to the Cincinnati Reds.

However, in 1954, the team changed its name to the Cincinnati Redlegs.

Finally, the team reverted to the simpler appellation of Reds in 1959. And they have called themselves the Cincinnati Reds ever since.

In addition, sometimes the team is called the Big Red Machine. This nickname became popular during the 1970s, when the Reds dominated the National League.

To sum up, the Reds have won 10 division titles, including six in the 1970s.

Moreover, the Reds have won nine NL pennants. And four of them were in the 1970s

Most importantly, the Reds have won five World Series titles. And two of them were in the 1970s. Firstly, they won the World Series in 1975. And they won it the following year in 1976.

The Cincinnati Reds play home games at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. In fact, it is the legendary team’s seventh stadium.

Built in 2003, the park replaced Riverfront Stadium. In addition to hosting the Reds, the stadium is also the occasional site of concerts and other large-scale events

Interestingly, the Cincinnati Reds are the only team in MLB starting each season playing at home. Apparently, this is for historical reasons as it was the first professional baseball team.
