Things to Do in Sweden in July 2021

July – a good time to visit Sweden? Sweden in July means balmy weather and long days. And there are usually many outdoor events. However, because of the pandemic, many celebrations will be scaled back or postponed till 2022. And a few have been canceled.

Sweden in July – Events

July is Sweden’s loveliest month. While the days aren’t quite as long as June’s, July’s temps are the warmest of the year.

Because of the balmy weather, boating, camping, sunbathing, swimming, and hiking are all popular activities in July.

And most years, several outdoor festivals and concerts are held in cities and towns across the country.

Unfortunately, many events have been canceled in 2021. And others have been postponed until next year.

Therefore,  check the dates carefully because some of the events listed are for 2022 rather than 2021.

Lolapalooza Stockholm – 1 to 3 July 2022

Lollapalooza is an international music event that was launched in Chicago, Illinois, in 1991.

In addition to the United States, the music festival has been staged in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, France, and Germany.

If the pandemic is brought under control, Lollapalooza will be staged in Sweden for the first time in 2022 at Lalapalooza Stockholm.

And more than 70 artists will perform across four stages in Gärdet.

In addition to music, Lollapalooza will offer a mind-blowing selection of food and drink. For example, more than 40 restaurants will serve mouth-watering bites at several venues in the park.

In addition, there will be special sections for wine and beer. So you won’t go thirsty!

Furthermore, Kidzapalooza will offer entertainment and activities for families with children.

To clarify, Gärdet is a park in the middle of Stockholm. And it is a five-minute walk from Karlaplan, the closest metro station. In addition, it is a 25-minute walk from Stockholm Central Station.

 

Karlshamn Baltic Festival – Postponed to 2022

Unfortunately, the Baltic Sea Festival has been canceled for the second year running.

However, if the pandemic subsides, there might be some smaller-scale events. But they will not be conducted under the Baltic Sea Festival flag.

“Instead, we aim to be able to conduct a really good Baltic Sea Festival 2022,” says Daniel Svensson, who is an event coordinator.

 

Falsterbo Horse Show – 10 to 18 July 2021

The focus of this year’s Falsterbo Horse Show will be completely on the sport.

So there won’t be the usual fan activities. For example, there will be no fan village.

And for this reason, organizers are calling it the Falsterbo Horse Show Sport Edition.

Firstly, the Show will open with three days of dressage, from ponies and Folksam Open to Grand Prix and Grand Prix Freestyle at the national level.

And all events will take place at the dressage arena from Saturday 10 July to Monday 12 July.

Secondly, from Wednesday 14 July to Sunday 18 July, there will be show jumping at the International Arena with six international CSI3 competitions.

And the Agria Falsterbo Derby and Falsterbo Grand Prix will be included.

Finally, there will be finals for Folksam Elitallsvenska and 7-Star, Folksam Open, as well as the Pony and Young Rider Grand Prix.

Peace and Love Festival – Cancelled

Unfortunately, the festival was declared bankrupt in 2020. So will it be resurrected next year?

Kiruna Festival – Postponed till 2022

Unfortunately, the  Kiruna Festival has been canceled for the second year running in 2021.
“For us, the safety of our visitors, staff, and artists will always come first,” organizers say.
“We would love to organize another memorable festival and will immediately start working on the implementation of the Kiruna Festival 2022.
“It will be the last festival in the old city center and our big expatriation party and thank you to the center.”

Stockholm International Jazz and Blues Festival – Canceled

Unfortunately, the Stockholm International Jazz and Blues Festival has been canceled. No word if there will be one in 2022.

Gotland Runt Offshore Race – 2 to  8 July 2021

Approximately 200 boats will depart from the centre of Stockholm on 4 July 2021. In fact, it is the world’s largest offshore race!

Firstly, they will sail out through the Archipelago and around the island of Gotland.  And they will finish in the classic KSSS sailing port of Sandhamn.

July is Sweden’s loveliest month in terms of weather.  Adding to the pleasant weather are those long days. In fact, twilight extends long into the night.

As a result, Swedish cities and towns are full of life. In fact, nearly everyone is on holiday.

But there is also a mass exodus from the urban areas. And many people head to summer homes in the countryside, where they can swim, hike, picnic, and just hang out.

Not only is Stockholm is Sweden’s largest city. In addition, it is the nation’s capital.

Built on a series of islands, Stockholm is a stunningly beautiful city with countless lakes, bays, canals, and wetlands.

The average high temperature in Stockholm in July is 23 degrees Celsius, or 73 degrees Fahrenheit. And at night, the temperature drops to an average low of 14 degrees Celsius, or 57 degrees Fahrenheit.

There is an average of 8.5 hours of daily sunshine in Stockholm in July. In fact, it is the third sunniest month of the year.

There is an average of nine rainy days in Stockholm in July. And there is an average of 2.6 inches of rain.

Gothenburg Weather in July

Gothenburg is Sweden’s second-largest city. And it is located on the country’s west coast.

In fact, the average high is in Gothenburg in July is 21 Celsius, or 70 Fahrenheit. And the average low is 13 degrees Celsius, or 55 degrees Fahrenheit.

There is an average of 7.5 hours of sunshine in Gothenburg in July.  And there is an average of 13 rainy days. In fact, there is an average of  2.8 inches of rain.

Malmo Weather in July

Malmo is Sweden’s third-largest city. And it sits at the southwestern tip of Sweden. In fact, it is across the Oresund River from Copenhagen, Denmark. 

The average high temperature in Malmo in July is 22 degrees Celsius, or 72 degrees Fahrenheit. And at night, the temperature drops to an average low of 14 degrees Celsius, or 57degrees Fahrenheit.

There is an average of 8.5 hours of sunshine in Malmo in July. In fact, It is the second sunniest month of the year, along with May.

There is an average of 14 rainy days in Malmo in July. And there is an average of 2.4  inches of rain.

Uppsala Weather in July

Uppsala is Sweden’s fourth-largest city. In fact, it is 71 kilometers, or 44 miles, north of Stockholm. 

The average high temperature in Uppsala in July is 23 degrees Celsius, or 73 degrees Fahrenheit. And at night, the temperature drops to an average low of 12 degrees Celsius, or 54 degrees Fahrenheit.

There is an average of 6 hours of sunshine in Uppsala in July. In fact, it is the fifth sunniest month of the year. And there is an average of 11 rainy days in Uppsala in July. Furthermore, there is an average of2.6  inches of rain.

Umea Weather in July

As Sweden’s 13th largest city, Umea is the gateway to Swedish Lapland.

The average high temperature in Umea in July is 21 degrees Celsius, or 71 degrees Fahrenheit. And at night, the temperature drops to an average low of 11 degrees Celsius, or 52 degrees Fahrenheit.

There is an average of 9.5 hours of sunshine in Umea in July. In fact, it is the sunniest month of the year, along with June.

However, there is an average of three inches of rain in July.

What to Pack

Summer is the best time to visit Sweden. Because the weather is pleasant, cities are full of life.

And the further north you go, the longer the days get. In the far north, the sun hardly sets.

Therefore, bring swimming suits and sportswear. But don’t forget to pack some jackets and sweaters as it can get rather chilly at night.
