Within minutes of completing his battery of tests at Bangkok Hospital, Michael Taylor goes for a private consultation with a physician, who discusses his results with him.
The doctor pulls up a computer screen and gives him a printed report, which has been neatly bound in a binder.
The doctor then goes through the report, point by point, telling Michael exactly what he needs to do. She also answers all of his many questions.
Coffee Break at Starbucks
I am given a voucher and taken downstairs to the lobby of the Bangkok Hospital, where a Starbuck’s is located. It’s just enough for a tall Americano and a croissant. I’m told that my results will be ready in about 20 minutes. I will be fetched by the young lady assigned to me when they are.
Before I’m even halfway through my coffee, I’m summonsed by the young lady, who takes me to see the doctor that will give me my results. They have already been bound into a little notebook.
One by One
The Doctor goes through my results one by one, and overall they are encouraging. Almost everything seems “normal”. But she does advise me to cut back on salt, sugar, fat, and carbs. She also advises me to eat more vegetables and fish, but to steer clear of fruit.
“Keep up the exercise, watch your diet, and maintain your weight,” is how she concludes our consultation.
Maintain your weight!!!
Those are three words of advice that just a few short years ago I never would have thought I would ever hear from a doctor! Kickboxing, spinning, doing laps, bicycling, pumping iron – I guess that all that time I’ve spent in the gym wasn’t entirely  in vain.
