St. Regis Hotel Bali
When you arrive in the lobby of the St. Regis Bali Resort, you’re serenaded by the melodic strains of the rindik, a Balinese xylophone made of bamboo strips.
Should you rush to your room and change as soon as you finish checking in? Relax! This is Bali! Let the butler take your things to your room and explore the property first.
That’s what I did, and it was a good thing. While I was strolling along the shores of the massive salt water swimming pool – or should I say “lagoon”? – I notice a schedule of activities.Â
“OMG!” I think. “There’s an aquarobics class! It starts in a few minutes. If I rush, I can make it!”
So I switch gears, hurry to my room, change, and head to the pool. I get there just in time.
The class was both fun and invigorating. There was a healthy international mix of fitness fans, and an undeniable sense of camaraderie quickly developed.
When the class ended, I waded over to the swim-up bar and ordered a fresh coconut and chatted with someone I met in the class. Then I contemplated how to spend the rest of the afternoon.
St. Regis Bali Resort –Â Overview
The St. Regis Bali Resort is a sumptuous beachfront hotel that fronts a lengthy stretch of Nusa Dua Beach, whose golden sands extend to the horizon.
I’m an avid swimmer, and I love doing laps. So it was a tough call because – as I said – the swimming pool is massive. It’s more like a meandering lagoon. But the beach also looks so inviting.
Factoid: Nusa Dua is one of the few beaches in Bali suitable for swimming.
I decide to do both. I will do laps in the morning in one and laps in the afternoon in the other during my four-day stay at this remarkable beachfront hotel in Bali.
I also manage to fit in workouts at the hotel’s well-equipped gym, where there are classes and an inhouse trainer. Â This is a destination resort, and there is no need to leave the property.Â
To clarify, this hotel has chairs and tables, towels, and attendants on the beach.
St. Regis Bali Resort – Food and Beverage
Serving an international menu, Gourmand Deli is one of six food and beverage outlets at the St. Regis Bali Resort. Included are four restaurants and two bars.
Breakfast and dinner buffets are served at Boneka. Overlooking the ocean, Kayuputi serves pan-Asian cuisine. Dulang serves Balinese dishes.
Vista Bar serves handcrafted cocktails, beers, wines, and the fresh coconuts I enjoyed each day after my aquarobics class.
The St. Regis Bar serves afternoon tea and evening cocktails. I liked the salsa so much, I asked for the recipe.
That’s where to watch the sun set into the Indian Ocean, followed by the resort’s mesmerizing torch-lighting ritual shortly thereafter. All while enjoying live jazz.
St. Regis Resort Bali – Accommodation
The St. Regis has 124 suites and villas. The one-bedroom balcony suites measure 92 square meters and overlook the ocean or the garden. Mine overlooked the garden, and it had a very large balcony.
Villas have direct access to either the swimming pool or the beach. They range from one to four bedrooms.Â
Both suites and villas have Egyptian cotton bedding from Ploh, premium toiletries, and butler service.Â
BTW, I didn’t have to pack! The butler did it for me, doing an incredible job, managing to stuff more things into my suitcase and carry-on than I thought humanly possible, but everything had been expertly pressed and was in pristine condition when I arrived at my next stop.

W Bali – Seminyak
Talk about making a Grand Entrance! The trip from the main road to the lobby of the W Bali – Seminyak takes three minutes and thirty seconds. I know because I timed it (on my second stay)!
First, you’re taken through a grove of lofty bamboo plants, which create an overhead canopy. When you reach a clearing with a stone W, you think you’ve arrived. Not yet! There’s are more transitions before you reach your destination.Â
What awaits you at the end of this rather jerky journey comes as a total surprise: a hyper trendy open air hotel lobby that screams: PIZZAZZ!!!
W Bali – Seminyak is located at the heart of Seminyak, Bali’s hedonistic hive of trendy fashion boutiques, pulsating nightlife, and Michelin-calibre eateries.Â
The only reason none of the restaurants in the ‘hood don’t have any Michelin stars is because Michelin doesn’t operate in Indonesia. Yet …Â
While W Bali Seminyak overlooks Seminyak Beach, it marches to its own drummer. It seems almost like an oasis.Â
There’s a state-of-the-art gym and a sumptuous spa. As with many of the destination resorts in Bali, there seems like no reason to leave. So I don’t.Â
W Bali – Seminyak – Food and Beverage
W Bali – Seminyak has four food and beverages outlets: two restaurants and two bars. Each has its own menu and its own vibe.
You meet W Lounge upon arrival. It’s in the lobby. And you can’t miss it, because it’s a kaleidoscope of ever-changing lit-from-behind hues. It serves high tea and cocktails, remaining open until midnight.Â
You wouldn’t be surprised if you saw Ariana Grande or Rihanna go slithering by.
Starfish Bloo serves an Asian-fusion menu, with a focus on seafood. The ingredients are mostly locally caught and garden-grown. This is where most hotel guests start their day with an extravagant international buffet breakfast.
Immediately after indulging in far more than I had planned, I head for the poolside to work on my tan. I would have dived right into the pool following breakfast, but when I was young, we were told you should wait 60 minutes before swimming.
As for the pool, it seems less like swimming pool and more like a canal as it weaves its way through the garden. This was certainly more fun than swimming back and forth in a straight line!
Fire serves – you guessed it! – grilled meats. This must be a carnivore’s dream come true! I didn’t eat there. I decided to go light on dinner.Â
Show Time!
There is something of a Hollywood glitz about W Bali – Seminyak, and for me, Woobar is the star of the show. As soon as I pull out my camera, it’s like – SHOWTIME!!!
The bartenders – who look straight out of a movie audition – know exactly what to do, angling for position, striking a pose, picking up props.Â
Someone suggests I hand them my camera so I can join the cast behind the bar. Whatever happened to those pix we took?
After things calm down, I retire to a seaside lounge chair on the sundeck, feeling a bit like an extra in a Hollywood film. I order a pizza, savor a glass of wine, and I watch the sun slowly sink slowly into the sea.
W Bali Seminyak – Accommodation
As one of the most sophisticated beachfront resort hotels in Bali, W Bali – Seminyak has 233 hotel rooms, suites, and villas.
I’ve stayed there twice, and both times I spent three nights in a “Wonderful Guest Room” (that’s W’s way of saying “standard room”), which had a king-size bed and “hand-selected, curated local art pieces” on the walls.
There was a large balcony with a spectacular view of the gardens and the beach beyond. There was a table and chair and a daybed. And here’s the funny part.
On every night I stayed there, the same thing happened. After I returned to my room I would pour myself a glass of wine, go out to my balcony, lie down on the daybed, and listen to the pulsating waves of the sea.
Next thing I knew, it was morning. I would awake and see a glass of half-drunk wine and my glasses lying on the floor next to me.
I never actually got to sleep in the bed, which I had been told had a superior quality mattress.Â

Holiday Inn Resort Baruna Bali
This hotel represents surprisingly good value. As a family friendly resort hotel, there is a kids’ club and child-friendly facilities. In addition, children eat for free!
But this shouldn’t put you off if you don’t have have children. The hotel also has a spa, a fitness center, and live entertainment. Close to the airport, it offers a free airport shuttle.Â
Blogger’s Tip: If you plan on spending several nights in Bali staying at different hotels on different parts of the island, spend your last couple of nights at this hotel!
I also enjoyed watching planes approaching the airport. Happily, the hotel lies outside the flight path, so there is no problem with noise.
Best of all, the resort offers a chance to experience a slice of Balinese life. When I went for a swim at the beach fronting the hotel, a couple of locals swam up to chat with me, introducing themselves and asking where I was from.
I was surprised when one of them asked what my birthday was. When I responded, he said, “No! Which day? Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday …”
“Oh,” I said. “I don’t know.”  He looked very surprised that I didn’t know which day of the week I was born on.
I asked about this later, discovering that each day of the week has a specific cultural and religious connotation in Balinese culture, and this guides the daily activities and rituals, which form an integral part of Balinese life.
Holiday Inn Resort Baruna Bali – Food and Beverage
The Holiday Inn Baruna Bali has four food and beverage outlets. An all-day-dining restaurant, Palms serves breakfast buffets and also has live entertainment in the evening.
Located next to the main swimming pool, it is so family friendly that up to four children aged 12 and under eat for free any time of the day – assuming they are staying at the hotel, of course!
Located next to the Baruna lawn garden, Envy Restaurant has an extensive menu, serving everything from light bites to grilled seafood, pizza, and comfort food.Â
The Pool Bar is also located next to the main restaurant. The bartenders were exceptionally friendly. Flavaz serves a “tropical teatime,” including beverages, freshly baked cookies, and finger sandwiches.
Holiday Inn Resort Baruna Bali – Accommodation
The resort has 192 rooms and suites with either a balcony or patio. They have ocean or garden views. One of the things that impressed me most was the empty mini-bar.Â
Rather than gouging hotel guests with overpriced drinks and snacks, the hotel had a well-stocked minimart right on the premises. It meant a family could buy a quart of juice rather than individual bottles.

The Ritz-Carlton, Bali
The Ritz-Carlton, Bali, puts the emphasis on the healing powers of seaweed and pearl in a seaside setting. There are 10 treatment rooms and four spa villas.Â
The resort has a fully equipped fitness center with cardio-vascular equipment, weight-lifting machines, and aerobics classes.
Other facilities include a hydro-vital pool, a main pool, and a Balinese bathing pool.
The Ritz-Carlton, Bali – Food and BeverageÂ
The Ritz-Carlton, Bali, has five food and beverage outlets, and all of them offer unparalleled views of the Indian Ocean.
Start the day at Senses, which opens at 6.30 am and serves only breakfast. A buffet restaurant, it serves Western, Chinese, Japanese, and Indonesian dishes as well as an egg station, healthy options, and a special kids corner.
Not surprisingly, The Beach Grill is closet to the beach. Open for lunch and dinner, it serves fresh seafood and premium meats.Â
Also overlooking the beach, Missoni Resort Club, Bali, serves Mediterranean cuisine. Â
The Ritz-Carlton Lounge & Bar is open from 11 am to 12 midnight, serving drinks, light bites, and afternoon tea as well as pre-dinner cocktails and after dinner nightcaps.
Bejana opens for dinner only, serving traditional Balinese cuisine. As the resort’s signature F&B outlet, it is located atop a cliff, offering beautiful views of the ocean.

Layang Layang is one of four on-site food and beverage outlets at the InterContinental Bali Resort Sanur. Overlooking the beach, it is an all-day dining restaurant, with both indoor and outdoor seating.
Overlooking the swimming pool, Nyala Beach Club is a an all-day-dining restaurant, serving Mediterranean cuisine. Pier Eight fronts the beach and is also an all-day-dining eatery. It serves authentic Balinese dishes.
The Lobby Lounge overlooks the gardens and serves small bites and afternoon tea.

A long rectangular outdoor swimming pool is located along the middle of the property, making it perfect for doing laps.
The hotel has a spa with six couple massage rooms and four single treatment rooms, a reflexology room, a manicure and pedicure room, two lounges, and pre- and post-treatment areas.
Hotel Indigo Bali is located on Seminyak Beach, and it provides chairs on the beach.

Nudi’s Beach Bar & Restaurant fronts the beach, next to the main swimming pool. It is a great place to sip cocktails while listening to live music.
Named after the legendary Hawaiian surfer, Duke Kahanamoku, Duke’s Pool Bar and Lounge serves tropical drinks and casual bites.Â

I’d have a hard time choosing between these, they all have beautiful beachfront locations. I believe the Ritz or Intercontinental, with their private villas would have to win out though, as we prefer separate villas when available.
Bali has some pretty amazing choices. If you like beachfront villas, there are some fabulous places that come with staff – chef, maid, butler, and driver.
