Best Hotels Close to Hong Kong Disneyland
Hong Kong Disneyland is located on Lantau Island, which is one of the roughly 260 islands that comprise Hong Kong. Lantau Island is actually larger than Hong Kong Island itself!
Hong Kong International Airport is also located on Lantau Island, and Hong Kong Disneyland is relatively close to it. The Disney theme park has three official hotels.
Each hotel has a different theme: Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel is Victorian, Disney Explorers Lodge is exotic cultures, and Disney’s Hollywood Hotel is art deco. These hotels offer an immersive Disney experience. They are within walking distance of the park. And they also offer a frequent shuttle service to the park.
In addition, Lantau Island has several non-official hotels within easy reach of Hong Kong Disneyland. With these hotels, you would usually have to take a taxi to the park. But they offer a greater range of amenities and price points, ranging from luxury to boutique to budget.
Two carefully curated lists follow.

Official Disney vs. Non-Disney Hotel?
If you want an immersive Disney experience and the convenience of the a shuttle to and from the park, staying at an official Disney hotel would be the best choice.
An important consideration that many park-goers don’t consider is the convenience of shuttling back and forth between your hotel and the park.
The close proximity means you can easily return to your room for a mid‑day rest or an afternoon by the pool or dinner at one of the F&B outlets, returning to the park later in the day or in the evening.
This is especially important for short stays, when Hong Kong Disneyland is the sole focus of your trip to Hong Kong.
However, if you are planning a longer stay in Hong Kong, with plans to explore other parts of the city, a non‑Disney hotel may be more practical.
These properties can provide easier access to the MTR and airport, more varied dining options, and better value for longer stays.
They also position you closer to other attractions on Lantau Island, making it simpler to combine your Disney visit with sightseeing beyond the park.
Discover Lantau Island
As the largest island in Hong Kong, Lantau offers much more than Hong Kong Disneyland. Some of the other key attractions include:
-
Big Buddha (Tian Tan Buddha), a massive bronze statue seated atop Ngong Ping, which symbolizes harmony between man and nature at Ngong Ping
-
Ngong Ping 360 cable car, an aerial gondola ride offering panoramic views of the island and South China Sea
-
The traditional fishing village of Tai O, famous for its stilt houses, seafood markets, a cultural charm.
-
An extensive network of scenic hiking trails, anchored by the 70 km (43 miles) Lantau Trail, which ranges from family‑friendly coastal walks to the challenging 6.1 km (3.8 mile) ascent up Lantau Peak.
How to Get to Your Disney Hotel from the Airport
Hong Kong has a color-coded taxi system. Red taxis will take you to the Urban Areas. Green taxis will take you to the New Territories. And blue taxis will take you to Lantau Island.
A taxi from Hong Kong International Airport to Hong Kong Disneyland — whether to the park entrance or one of the Disney Resort’s hotels — takes around 15–20 minutes and costs HK$140–$200 (US$18–$25), plus HK$6 (US$0.75) per piece of luggage in the trunk (boot).
If you prefer public transport, you can take the Airport Express to the Tsing Yi MTR Station and switch to the Tung Chung Line and then transfer at Sunny Bay to the Disney Resort Line. This trip would take around 30-35 minutes and cost HK$82.5 (US$10.55) per adult passenger.
However, unless you are traveling alone, it would usually be cheaper, faster, and more convenient to travel by taxi.
How to Get to Your Non-Disney Hotel from the Airport
Taxis are the fastest and most convenient way to reach other hotels on Lantau Island (10–45 minutes, HK$80–350).
Public transport is cheaper: the MTR is best for hotels near Tung Chung or Disneyland, while buses serve the more remote villages and beaches, such as Mui Wo, Cheung Sha Wan, and Tai O. Travel time would range from 30 minutes to more than an hour, with fares ranging from HK$10-40 (US$1.25-$5.00).
Final Thoughts
One of the most important decisions you’ll make when planning a trip to Hong Kong Disneyland is choosing the right hotel. For some, the three official Disney hotels adjacent to the park are the obvious choice, offering themed rooms and a fully immersive Disney experience.
For others, the nearby hotels on Lantau Island provide a wider range of amenities, settings, and price points.
Your choice will depend on a variety of practical considerations:
-
Budget — whether you prefer five‑star luxury, a mid-range option, or a budget‑friendly retreat.
-
Proximity — whether you want to stay steps from the park or you don’t mind going by taxi.
- Facilities — which kind of facilities are important to you: swimming pools, spas, gyms, restaurants, bars, and family‑friendly amenities.
-
Airport access — do you have an early morning or late night arrival or departure?
-
Public transport — do you want easy access to MTR stations or ferry piers?
-
Trip focus — if you’re only visiting the park, the Disney hotels may be ideal; if you also want to explore beaches, mountains, or heritage sites like Tai O – or other parts of Hong Kong – the non‑Disney options may suit you better.
Whether you choose the official Disney resorts or one of the nearby hotels, staying on Lantau Island ensures you’re close to Hong Kong Disneyland while also enjoying the island’s natural beauty and cultural experiences.
My personal favorites? Of the three Disney hotels, I liked Disney Explorer’s Lodge best. I felt that it offered the most immersive experience. It seemed like it was an extension of the park – Adventureland, to be specific.
In terms of the other hotels on Lantau Island, the Tai O Heritage Hotel is a boutique hotel in the truest sense of the term and offers the most unique experience of the lot.
Is it convenient to get to? No. But if you’re a heritage buff looking for a chance to experience a side of Hong Kong that most people will never see, this hotel is for you.
