Cleveland Cavaliers Team History

The Cleveland Cavaliers are a professional basketball team in the United States. They play in the Central Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
The franchise was founded in 1970 as an NBA expansion team. In their early years, the Cavaliers struggled to find success, but by the mid-1970s they reached the playoffs and began building a loyal fan base in Northeast Ohio.
The Cavaliers have had several notable eras. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the team was led by stars like Mark Price, Brad Daugherty, and Larry Nance, consistently competing in the Eastern Conference. The most transformative era began in 2003, when the Cavaliers drafted LeBron James with the first overall pick.
LeBron guided the team to its first NBA Finals appearance in 2007, and later, after returning to Cleveland in 2014, he led the Cavaliers to their greatest triumph: the 2016 NBA Championship. That victory was historic, as the Cavaliers became the first team in NBA history to overcome a 3–1 deficit in the Finals, defeating the Golden State Warriors and delivering Cleveland its first major sports championship in over 50 years.
