Location, Location, Location
Mactan Island is located about one mile from the city of Cebu. It is connected to Cebu by two bridges. It is the country’s most densely populated island.
But don't let that put you off! Mactan also has some of the best resort hotels in the Philippines!
With stunning beaches with pristine waters and lovely coral reefs, the island is especially popular with water sports enthusiasts.
Snorkeling, scuba diving, jet-skiing, and sailing are all popular activities.
The provincial capital of Visayas, Cebu City is the oldest city in the Philippines and its first capital. It is one of the country’s most important centres of commerce, trade, education, and industry. Owing to its long history, Cebu is also home to many important heritage sites, with churches and fortifications dating back to the Spanish colonial era.
Where to Stay in Cebu Now
If you can't wait for the Dusit Thani Mactan to open next year, why not check out my first hand hotel reviews and head there now?
I have visited Cebu twice, and it is one of my favourite travel destinations. I’ve stayed at a total of five hotels there, including three five star resorts on Mactan Island, one five-star hotel in town, and a budget hotel located near the airport.
Mini reviews of the Cebu hotels and resorts I have stayed at follow. Click on the highlighted links to read the entire review.
Movenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu - this is a view from my room at the Movenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu. Talk about decadence! There was a complimentary chocolate indulgence every afternoon in the lobby!
Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa - this is the jaw-dropping view from room 5005 at Shangri-La's Mactan Resort and Spa, where I spent three wonderful nights on my most recent visit to Cebu. It was one of the first five-star resorts in the Philippines and is still one of the best!
Plantation Bay – this low-rise hotel was a collection of plantation style bungalows surrounding a massive man-made lagoon. There were nightly national themes every night with lavish buffets and floor shows to match. Wish I could have spent an entire week to take in all of them!
Radisson Blu Hotel, Cebu - targeted primarily at business travelers, this lovely hotel was located across the street from a fabulous shopping mall. But the real attraction was the food. It had some of the best buffets I've ever eaten at. Loved those fruit-based tropical salads!
Express Inn Cebu - with an early morning arrival, I didn't want to waste one night's accommodation at a five star resort. So I booked a room at this budget hotel near the airport, and I was glad I did. The Internet connection was flawless, and the staff were very friendly!
Transport
