Great Gatsby: Walk in the Footsteps of Leonardo Di Caprio!

Part One in a Series

Casting Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby in the movie version of The Great Gatsby seems about as inevitable as casting Clark Gable in the role of Rhett Butler in Gone With the Wind or Richard Gear as Julian Kay in .

What other actor could appear as at home among Long Island’s rich and famous as Leonardo? The film will premier in the United States on 10 May 2013. It will premier in Britain one week later.

The Great Gatsby will also officially open this year’s 66th Cannes Film Festival, which will run from 15 to 26 May 2013 in Cannes, France.

Can the movie live up to its hype?

Written by American author F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby was critically acclaimed when it was published, but it was not as successful commercially as some of Fitzgerald’s earlier works. By the time Fitzgerald died in 1940, the book had been largely forgotten.

The book  is now considered to be a classic of American literature. It is required reading for English majors at universities in the United States. It has been adapted to the stage and screen several times over the decades.

Long Island’s Gold Coast as Travel Destination

It is against this backdrop that I received a press release from the New York State Division of Tourism promoting Long Island’s North Shore as a travel destination for fans of the book and – hopefully! – the film.

The movie depicts life among Long Island’s rich and well heeled at the height of  the Roaring Twenties. It follows the life and times of millionaire Jay Gatsby, who is played by Leonardo DiCaprio in the movie.

Tourists visiting Long Island’s North Shore, just a short ride from New York City, will be able to experience the atmosphere of a place synonymous with ostentatious wealth and pretentious opulence as immortalized in the book – and soon to be the movie, the press release promises.
