Don Mueang International Airport is one of two commercial airports serving Bangkok, the Thai capital. The airport is used mostly for domestic and budget flights. Most international flights operate out of Suvarnabhumi International Airport.
One of the oldest airports in Asia, Don Mueang served as Bangkok’s main gateway until Suvarnabhumi International Airport opened in 2006.
Don Mueang was supposed to be closed down, but owing to overcrowding at Suvarnabhumi, it reopened the following year as hub for domestic flights and budget carriers.
The airport is now a hub for Nok Air, Thai AirAsia, Thai Lion Air, and Orient Thai Airlines. In addition to flying to domestic travel destinations across Thailand, airlines fly from the airport to such international travel destinations as Bali, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore.
Ground Transportation
The line for taxis at Don Mueang Airport can be long, with waits of up to one hour.
