Where to Eat in Sydney
The global COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on the restaurant business around the world.
In some places, such as Thailand, restaurants were forced to suspend operations altogether. While in other places, such as California, restaurants could only serve take out or make deliveries.
In places like Hong Kong, restaurants were allowed to stay open, but they could only seat one-half the number of usual diners.
But even as restrictions are slowly eased, some foodies are still reluctant to eat out.
To this end, Alili Bar and Kitchen, the sole F&B outlet at Ovolo Woolloomooloo in Sydney, New South Wales, has launched the Restaurant in Room package.
And it is proving so popular, it might be expanded!
Room Service Delivers Restaurant in a Room
In essence, the hotel has converted guest rooms into private dining rooms. In fact, the original purpose was to allow for social distancing. And only two diners were permitted per room.
However, now that the government has relaxed restrictions, up to 10 guests can dine in a room.
And the promotion is available on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights.
Restaurant in a Room Five Course Dinner
Creative Culinary Partner Matthew Kenny and Alibi Head Chef Jordan Brogan have conspired to concoct a mouth-watering five course set menu.
The Restaurant in Room package comprises the following set dinner for two people:
- Kimchi Dumplings – coconut, coriander wrapper, ginger foam, and red cabbage puree.
- Beetroot Hummus – radish sesame crumb, and lavosh.
- Spicy Udon – temppah crumb, shitake, cashew, hoisin, and miso broth.
- Activated Charcoal Ravioli – slow roast pumkin, pine nuts, sage, and pepita crunch.
- Apple Crumble – vanilla bean ice cream.
A beverage matching package is available. And additional drinks can also be added.
In addition, diners can spend the night. Overnight packages include wi-fi, in-room minibar, and breakfast.
When asked how long the promotion would continue, a spokesperson for the hotel says it is proving quite popular. More popular that expected?
“At this stage, we’ll look at expanding due to popularity!” the spokesperson says.
“Even as restrictions ease, there are still hesitant diners who aren’t comfortable in larger bars, pubs, or restaurants.”
