More than 1 million ‘low risk’ travellers enroll in TSA Pre✓®, which allows them to virtually fly through security check points at airports across the United States without having to remove shoes and light outerwear.
TSA Pre✓® was launched by the United States Travel Security Administration (TSA) in October 2011. It allows travellers that are considered ‘low risk’ to fly virtually through security check points at 133 airports across the United States.
Now who doesn’t hate having to wait in long lines at airport security check points, take off their shoes, remove their belts, struggle with their laptop, and discard their liquids? Isn’t travel already stressful enough?
Airline passengers that are considered ‘low risk’ don’t have to suffer such indignities if they pre-enroll in TSA Pre✓®, a programme to streamline security procedures at a growing number of airports across the United States.
“The continued growth and passenger participation in TSA Pre✓® affirms our commitment to the evolution of our intelligence-driven, risk-based approach to aviation security,” says TSA Acting Administrator Melvin Carraway.
Participating Airlines
Not all airlines are participating in the programme. And it might just have an influence on WHICH airline you decide to book a ticket.
The programme is available to travellers flying on the following North American airlines: Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways, and Virgin America.
Only US citizens and lawful permanent residents of the United States are eligible to enroll in the programme. But what about Canadians? Do they qualify???
