Water Play Street Party Planned at Hong Kong Disneyland

Water Play Street Party is planned for Main Street U.S.A. this summer as attendance at the Hong Kong Disneyland rises 3% to 6.2 million in fiscal 2017. New attractions and a third hotel were credited with fueling the increase in visitation at the popular theme park.

Attendance at Hong Kong Disneyland rose 3% to 6.2 million in fiscal 2017, bringing the total number of people that have visited the popular amusement park to 70 million since it opened its gates 13 years ago in 2005.

Roughly 1.6 million of the visitors at the park in fiscal 2017 were from overseas.

The launch of Iron Man Experience, Disney Parks’ first Marvel-themed ride, and Disney Explorers Lodge, the resort’s third hotel, helped fuel the increase.

Other events sparking interest included the first-ever Marvel Super Hero Summer and the first Marvel-themed race event, the Marvel 10K Weekend – Presented by AIA Vitality, which was held in September. More than 10,000 runners from across Asia took part in the fast-paced event.

The first-ever Southeast Asian style night market was held during Chinese New Year this year. Other themed events will be held each season.

A colourful new We Love Mickey! Main Street Projection Show, will be held at night throughout March. On March 30, the first-ever Karibuni Marketplace will be held in Adventureland near the Theater in the Wild.

A new entertainment venue will open in Adventureland in May. It will feature a lively stage show entitled Moana: A Homecoming Celebration, which will be the first completed project under the latest phase of expansion.

A brand new Disney Pixar-themed Water Play Street Party! along Main Street, U.S.A., will take place  in summer with characters from such films as “The Incredibles” and “Toy Story” joining more than 30 performers for this cool, water-filled summer celebration.

The Disney theme park has proved especially popular with overseas visitors from Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, and South Korea. Visitors from outside Hong Kong accounted for a clear majority, or nearly six in 10 park visitors. in fiscal 2017, which ended on 30 September 2017.

Locals made up 41% of visitors, followed by mainlanders, who made up 34%, and international visitors, who made up 25%.

The first quarter of fiscal 2018, which included the popular Halloween and Christmas holidays, registered a double-digit increase in the number of theme park visitors.
