Eggs Benedict is the signature breakfast dish at Sea Restaurant, the all-day dining restaurant at Hotel Baraquda,  M Gallery by Sofitel, in Pattaya, Thailand. Overlooking the swimming pool, the eatery features a contemporary vibe with colourful Chinese influences.

Eggs Benedict is a popular dish traditionally served at breakfast or lunch in the United States.Eggs Benedict is, in fact, something of a premium breakfast offering, and many chefs like to give it their own particular “spin”.

According to Wikipedia Commons, Eggs Benedict usually consists of two halves of an English muffin, which are topped with Canadian bacon, ham, or bacon, a poached egg, and hollandaise sauce.

The dish was first popularized in New York City, but I’m staying at the Hotel Baraquda, M Gallery by Sofitel in Pattaya, Thailand, having breakfast with the hotel’s marketing team.

Someone suggests I order the Eggs Benedict because it is the specialty of the house so  I say, “OK!”Ham or Smoked Salmon?

When I’m asked if I want it with ham or smoked salmon, I ask which is recommended, and I’m told, “Smoked Salmon”. So I opt for the Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon.I’m not just being cooperative. I ADORE smoked salmon!

If truth be told, I’m not a big fan of Eggs Benedict because when I’ve ordered in the past, I found it a bit bland. I really couldn’t understand what the big deal was.

But I’ve only tried Eggs Benedict at hotels in Asia, and Asian hotels – no matter how many stars they have – don’t always get Western food right.

My Eggs Benedict arrives …

First of all, the plating of the dish. I think the photo I took says it all: it is absolutely GORGEOUS!!!

When I dig in, I discover that not only does it look gorgeous, it also tastes absolutely divine. It is anything but bland.

And I quickly discover what the chef’s secret is: he’s added a layer of grainy

Most of the hotels I stay at offer a breakfast buffet in the morning, and while most of the dishes are laid out buffet style, it is not unusual for there to be an egg station, where a chef cooks eggs to order.

But that usually means omelet, scrambled, sunny side up – stuff like that. And it not only varies from hotel to hotel, it can also depend GREATLY on who’s on duty at the same hotel.

Some of the better hotels also offer signature dishes that can be ordered a la carte to supplement what is served on the buffet tables.

At the Hotel Baraquda in Pattaya, that signature dish was Eggs Benedict. Click HERE for my review of the hotel.

Eggs are the star of the show at breakfast at Sea Restaurant,  one of four food and beverage outlets at the hotel. They can be cooked any way you want.

Other mouth-watering breakfast options include traditional Western breakfast meats such as sausage and bacon as well as freshly made pancakes and waffles.

Other options include a rice and congee station with a choice of accompaniments.

Halal dishes, cold cuts, cheeses, French-style pastries, freshly-baked breads, croissants, cakes, all types of fresh juices and well-being drinks sound out the options.

If you prefer to have your breakfast cooked to order,  there are Thai, American, and Continental set menus as well as an a la carte menu.

The breakfast buffet is served from 6.30 to 10.30 am. A la carte and set menus are served from 6.00 am to 12.30 pm.
