Hong Kong Rugby 7s Week will kick off with a street party in Lan Kwai Fong, a rock concert near the stadium, and other festivities scattered about town. A women’s Hong Kong rugby tournament will also be held.

The 41st annual Hong Kong Rugby Sevens tournament will be held at Hong Kong Stadium from Friday 8 to Sunday 10 April 2016.

Hundreds of rugby players and 120,000 rugby fans from around the world will descend on Hong Kong for the 41th annual Hong Kong Sevens, one of the biggest sporting events of the year in Hong Kong.

Festivities will commence earlier in the week. There will be high profile events as well as smaller parties at various venues around town.

High profile events will be held in the run to the Rugby Sevens. Viewing parties will be held at open public places as well as at sports bars and restaurants during the actual event.

Hong Kong Rugby Evens is one of Asia’s most important sporting events of the year. Here’s a Quick Guide to some of the higher profile events that will take place during Rugby Sevens Week.

Lan Kwai Fong Sevens Carnival

The streets of Lan Kwai Fong will come alive with music, fancy dress, and rugby legends at the Lan Kwai Fong Sevens Carnival in Central. Nearest MTR station: Central on Hong Kong Island. Free admission.

  • From 7 pm to 11 pm on Tuesday 5 April 2016.

Kick-off Concert

David Hasselhoff of Baywatch fame will host a concert headlining Scottish Rockers The Proclaimers and a tribute to ABBA by Bjorn Again at the Kick-off Concert at Sevens Village, IRC, 63 Caroline Hill Road in Causeway Bay. Nearest MTR station: Causeway Bay on Hong Kong Island. Tickets required.

HK Sevens Central

There will be community activities, live entertainment, food and beverage stands, and rugby legends at HK Seven Central. Big screen televisions will be set up broadcasting live action from Hong Kong Stadium during the Rugby Sevens at Chater Garden in Central on Hong Kong Island. Nearest MTR station: Central. Free admission.

  • From 10 am to 4 pm on Wednesday 6 April;
  • From 10 am to 5 pm on Thursday 7 April;
  • From 12 noon to 9.30 pm on Friday 8 April (with Big Screen TV);
  • From 9 am to 7.30 pm on Saturday 9 April (with Big Screen TV);
  • From 9.30 am to 7.30 pm on Sunday 10 April (with Big Screen TV). 

Rugby Family Fun Weekend

There will be rugby legends from New Zealand, tasting booths,  interactive games, and a face-painting  workshop at the Rugby Family Fun Weekend. Big screen televisions will be set up broadcasting live action from Hong Kong Stadium during the Rugby Sevens on Lee Tung Avenue from Queen’s Road East to Johnston Road in Wanchai on Hong Kong Island. Nearest MTR station: Wanchai. Free admission.

  • From 2 pm to 7 pm on Thursday 7 April;
  • From 12 noon to 7 pm from Friday 8 to Sunday 10 April (with Big Screen TV).
