Nordiques/Avalanche Franchise History

First of all, the team was founded in 1972 as the Quebec Nordiques. And they represented Quebec City in the Canadian province of Quebec.

Then in 1995, the franchise moved to Denver, Colorado, in the United States. Consequently, the team needed a new name. So it was renamed the Colorado Avalanche.

As a professional ice hockey team, the Colorado Avalanche play in the Central Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL).

The Avalanche have won nine division championships since moving to Denver.

In addition, the ice hockey team has won two president’s trophies. Furthermore, it has won two conference championships.

The Avs play home games at Pepsi Center in Denver Colorado.

The Colorado Avalanche share the multipurpose arena with the Denver Nuggets of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

In addition, the Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) also play home games at the arena.

Denver also plays host to the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL). The football team plays home games at Empower Field at Mile High.
