Aviation: Qatar Airways Takes Delivery on First Boeing 787 Dreamliner

Doha based Qatar Airways has taken delivery on the first of 30 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, making it the first airline based in the Middle East to take delivery on the environmentally friendly advanced aircraft.

Made from composite materials, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner is the first mid-size airplane that can fly long-range routes. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner will allow Qatar Airways and other airlines to launch non-stop routes with smaller payloads.

Qatar Airways. Qatar Airways has announced that it will deploy the Boeing 787 Dreamliner on flights to Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE); London Heathrow, in Britain; Delhi, India; and Zurich, Switzerland. Additional new flights will be launched as more Boeing 787s Dreamliners join the airline’s fleet.

New Benchmark for Reliability and Comfort

“We are delighted to receive our first Dreamliner, an aircraft which we expect will establish new benchmarks for reliability and comfort, when combined with Qatar Airways‘ signature passenger experience,” says Akbar Al Baker, Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways.

“Our decision to invest in this game-changing airplane, which represents the future of air travel, reflects our firm belief in its unrivaled capabilities and the value it will add to our fleet and network expansion plans.”

Smaller Carbon Footprint

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner offers greater fuel efficiency and lower operating costs for a smaller carbon footprint. The technologically advanced airliner also features a host of new technologies that will greatly enhance the passenger experience.

Improvements will include better lighting, bigger windows, larger overhead bins, lower cabin altitudes, and enhanced ventilation systems, among other features. The airline’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner cabins are configured with 22 seats in Business Class and 232 in Economy.

Unmatched Fuel Efficiency

The airline’s first Boeing 787 is also the airline’s 32nd Boeing airplane. It will join a fleet of 31 Boeing 777 passenger and cargo aircraft.

The Doha-based air carrier currently has a global network of 120 destinations across Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, North America, the Pacific, and South America.
