Macau: Hotel Review – Grand Coloane Resort Offers Luxury Amid Seclusion

Hospitality

Far from the maddening crowds, the Grand Coloane Resort offers spacious rooms with large balconies, excellent food and beverage outlets, both indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and a well-equipped gym.

Formerly known as the Westin Resort Macau, the Grand Coloane Resort is tucked away in one of the quietest sections of Macau. This is a place to get away from it all.

The hotel has no casino. What is does have is both indoor and outdoor swimming pools, restaurants serving excellent food, and rooms with very large balconies affording excellent views.

Well-maintained walking trials are within walking distance of the hotel.

Accommodation

The hotel has 208 spacious guests rooms, and if there is a unique selling proposition, it would have to be the spacious balconies.

My room has a spectacular views of Hac Sa Beach, the hills of Coloane, and the South China Sea.

The bathrooms have sunken bathtubs and walk-in showers..

Superior, Grand, and Grand Deluxe rooms measture 710 feet (66 square metres). Deluxe Suites measure 1,421 feet (132 square metres) and have separate sleeping and living rooms. Deluxe suites have either one large or 2 smaller balconies.

Measuring 3,671 square feet (341 square metres), the Presidential Suite has a living room, a dining, a kitchenette, a private bar, and a separate servant’s entrance.

The Master Bath has a Jacuzzi and private sauna.

Food + Beverage

The hotel has 5 food and beverage outlets. Cafe Panorama serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets with a menu that ranges from Asian to international. The ambiance is informal.

Panorama Lounge is located right next door. It serves afternoon tea and evening cocktails, with live music most nights.

The Poolside Bar serves salads, sandwiches, and other light snacks – as well as one of the best hamburgers I have ever sunk my teeth into. Fruit and fruit juice is also available.

Kwun Hoi Heen Chinese Restaurant specializes in mouth-watering Cantonese cuisine, and the dim sum is particularly innovative and tasty. It is one of the best Chinese restaurants in town.

Porto Bar was under renovation during my visit. It has an extensive selection of port wines and also serves local snacks.

Facilities

One of the hotel’s star attractions is the H shaped outdoor swimming pool. There is also an indoor pool, a Jacuzzi, and a children’s pool.

The hotel has a well equipped fitness studio (Click here for photos of The Club Grand Coloane). There is at least one activity each day, including walks along the Coloane Trails 3 days a week (Click here for photos of the Coloane Trail).

Mountain bikes can be rented at an additional charge.

The Nirvana Day Spa offers a complete menu of spa treatments. Make sure to book a day in advance.

With an 18 hole golf course, the Macau Golf and Country Club adjoins the hotel. Hotel guests can use the facilities at an additional charge.

Location, Location, Location

The hotel is located overlooking the South China Sea on the southernmost tip of Coloane, Macau’s least developed district.

The hotel is within walking distance of excellent walking trials and adjoins a golf club, which guests can access at an additional charge.

A Portuguese restaurant popular with locals is within walking distance of the hotel (Click here for a first hand review of Miramar Portuguese Food).

Unique Selling Proposition

The hotel is an ideal spot for travellers wanting to get away from the maddening crowds. It offers peace, solitude, and relaxation. The nearest casino is miles away.

The balconies are among the largest I’ve seen and offer stunning views. The swimming pool is particularly nice.

Perhaps nicest of all are the complimentary walks along the Coloane Trail, which are offered by the health club 3 days a week.
