Hotel employees at Anantara resorts in the Maldives have undergone intensive training in the fine art of butlering.
The training was provided by British-born Steven Ferry, Chairman of The International Institute of Modern Butlers.
“It comes down to the art of being invisible and yet delivering everything,” Steven says.
“I believe the true test of an intelligent modern butler is not how much he knows how to do, but how he behaves when he doesn’t know. One of the toughest aspects of the job is trying to second-guess the guest.”
According to Torsten Richter, Cluster General Manager of Anantara Dhigu Resort and Spa, Anantara Veli Resort and Spa and Naladhu Maldives in South Male Atoll, one of important things he learned was that the successful butler was an invisible butler.
A Successful Butler
“When things are going very, very smoothly and the guest doesn’t notice the butler, then they’re successful,” Torsten says.
