Marriott Strengthens Sanitation Standards

Marriott International has strengthened cleanliness standards in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. In other words, the chain is using state-of-the-art technology to disinfect hotels, encourage social distancing, and improve food and beverage hygiene standards.

Marriott Global Cleanliness Council

Hotels in the Marriott International group have a reputation for high sanitation standard. However, the Covid-19 pandemic is presenting these hotels with unprecedented challenges.

To meet these challenges, the group has created the Marriott Global Cleanliness Council to raise cleanliness standards at its 3,200 hotels around the world.

In-house and outside experts have contributed to this effort in the following areas: housekeeping, engineering, food safety, occupational health, and staff well-being.

How Marriott Strengthens Sanitation Standards

Marriott will launch a series of new technologies over the next few months to enhance cleanliness standards.

Firstly, electrostatic sprayers with hospital-grade disinfectant will sanitize surfaces throughout Marriott hotels.

This technology will use the highest classification of disinfectants recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) to treat known pathogens.

The sprayers will rapidly clean and disinfect entire areas. They will  disinfect both public areas such as lobbies, restaurants, and fitness rooms as well as hotel gust rooms.

In addition, the chain is testing ultraviolet light technology to sanitize keys for guests and devices shared by hotel employees.

Marriott strengthens sanitation standards at hotels in a number of ways. These include:

Social Distancing

Because person-to-person contact is the way COVID-19 is usually spread, Marriott is using signage in hotel lobbies to remind hotel guests to maintain social distancing.

Moreover, it is rearranging furniture to encourage social distancing. And in many cases, it is actually removing unnecessary furniture.

In addition, Marriott is thinking about adding partitions at front desks and offering employees masks and gloves.

The hotel chain is installing more hand sanitizing stations at hotel entrances, the front desk, elevator banks, fitness rooms, and meeting spaces.

Finally, travelers can check in using their mobile devices. In addition, they can use their device to access their rooms, make special requests, and order room service.

Surface Areas

Firstly, Marriott has strengthened its already rigorous cleaning standards. For example, staff will more frequently disinfect all surfaces in public spaces. In addition, they will use hospital-grade disinfectants.

Secondly, the chain has strengthened the cleaning of hotel guest rooms with hospital-grade disinfectants. And staff will place disinfecting wipes in each room for the use of hotel guests.

Food and Beverage

Marriott is strengthening food and beverage sanitation guidelines. For example,  food handlers and supervisors are being trained on safe food preparation and service practices.

Consequently, new training videos have been prepared to train staff

In addition, the chain is modifying the way it approaches restaurant buffets and in-room dining.
