Islanders Team History

The New York Islanders are a professional ice hockey team in United States. And the Islanders compete in the East Division of the National Hockey League (NHL).
The Islanders were established in 1972. And they originally played home games at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale on Long Island.
Previously, Long Island had a hockey team called the Long Island Ducks, who played in the Eastern Hockey League from 1959 to 1973.
The Islanders have won six division championships. And they have also won six conference championships.
Most importantly, they have won four Stanley Cups. In fact, the Isles had a 19-game playoff winning streak between 1980 and 1984.
And this is a record no other professional sports team can match.
In addition, they are the last team in any major professional North American sport to win four consecutive championships!
However, the last time the Islanders won the league championship was in the 1982-83 season.
Because the NY Islanders were unable to rebuild or replace the Nassau Coliseum in suburban Long Island, the team moved to Barclays Center in Brooklyn in 2015. And this is where the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA) play home games.
However, during the 2018–19 and 2019–20 seasons, the Islanders split their home games between Barclays Center and the Nassau Coliseum.
And the Islanders are playing all their home games in the 2020–21 season at the Nassau Coliseum.
In fact, a new arena called UBS Arena is currently under construction in near Belmont Park in Uniondale. And the hockey team plans to play home games there in the 2021-22 season.
In addition to the Islanders, there are two other NHL franchises in the New York Metropolitan Area. Firstly, the New York Rangers are based in Manhattan. Secondly, the New Jersey Devils are based in Newark, New Jersey.
In addition, there is a third NHL franchise in New York State. The Buffalo Sabres play in update New York.
