Kraken Team History

The Seattle Kraken are a professional ice hockey team in the United States. And they compete in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL).

The Kraken were established in 2021 as an expansion team. And they are the first professional hockey team to represent Seattle since the Seattle Totems of the Western Hockey League ceased play in 1974.

Historically, Seattle had a professional hockey team called the Seattle Metropolitans. And they competed in the Pacific Coast Hockey Association.

In fact, they were founded in 1915. And they folded in 1924. Most importantly, they were very successful. And they won the Stanley Cup in 1917!

So how did the Seattle Kraken get their name? In fact, the kraken were a mythical octopus from  Scandinavia. And they are similar to the giant octopus that are native to the waters of the Puget Sound.
