Pride Festivals in Sweden

While most Pride celebrations around the world take place in June, Sweden’s calendar is a little different.

Here, Pride season stretches across the summer, beginning in June with events in Gothenburg and Borås, peaking in July with Malmö Pride and the start of Stockholm Pride, which continues into early August. Celebrations in  Uppsala and Örebro typically take place in August or September.

This extended schedule means you can experience Pride almost all summer long, with Stockholm Pride standing out as the largest and most vibrant Pride celebration in Scandinavia.

July is Sweden’s loveliest month. While the days aren’t quite as long as June’s, July’s temps are the warmest of the year.

Because of the balmy weather, boating, camping, sunbathing, swimming, and hiking are all popular activities in July.

And most years, several outdoor festivals and concerts are held in cities and towns across the country.


 

Malmo Pride – 1 to 4 July 2026

Malmo Pride is a four-day celebration featuring Pride House, Youth Pride, a parade, concerts, and parties.


Time to Rock Festival – 3 to 6 July 2026

Time To Rock Festival is a regional gathering for fans of rock and heavy metal, featuring Swedish and international acts.

Founded in 2007, the festival has grown into one of Sweden’s most beloved summer events, offering an intimate yet energetic atmosphere across genres like classic rock, hard rock, and metal.

Knislinge Folkets Park – Knislinge, a town of about 3,000 people in Skåne County, which is approximately 140 kilometers, or 87 miles, northeast of Malmö. The drive takes about 1.5 hours.


Falsterbo Horse Show – 4 to 12 July 2026

The Falsterbo Horse Show is not only the biggest equestrian event in Sweden; it is also the largest outdoor sporting event in the country. 

At its heart, top riders from Sweden and abroad contend for titles in front of tens of thousands of spectators, making it a highlight of the summer sporting calendar.

A highlight is Icelandic Horses, with competitions showcasing the breed’s unique gaits such as pace and tölt, a smooth, four‑beat movement where at least one foot is always on the ground, which is unique to Icelandic horses.

The program also features both national and international jumping and dressage classes, a big exhibition, and more.

Falsterbo Horse Show Arena  – Clemensagervägen, Falsterbo, Sweden, a small town of 3,000 people. It is 615 kilometers, or 382 miles, southwest of Stockholm. The drive takes about 6.5 hours.


Öland Roots – 8 to 11 July 2026

Öland Roots is Sweden’s premier reggae festival, celebrating roots, reggae, and world music in a relaxed seaside setting.

Founded in 2004, the festival has become a cornerstone of Sweden’s alternative summer music scene, drawing both Swedish and international artists. Its intimate atmosphere and focus on community and sustainability make it a distinctive experience among Scandinavian festivals.

Sandbergen – Öland, Sweden’s second‑largest island in the Baltic Sea. Öland has about 25,000 residents and is connected to the mainland by the Öland Bridge. Sandbergen lies near the town of Mörbylånga, approximately 410 kilometers, or 255 miles, south of Stockholm. The drive takes about 5 hours.


Visfestivalen i Västervik – 9 to 11 July 2026

Visfestivalen i Västervik is one of Europe’s oldest singer‑songwriter festivals.  Founded in 1966, it is held in the ruins of the city’s old castle, Slottsruinen bringing together popular Swedish and international artists for intimate performances in a unique historic setting.

Slottsruinen – Västervik, Sweden, a coastal town of about 21,000 people. 280 kilometers, or 174 miles, south of Stockholm. The drive takes about 3.5 hours.


Stockholm Pride – 27 July to 2 August 2026

Stockholm Pride is Scandinavia’s largest LGBT festival, attracting tens of thousands of participants and hundreds of thousands of spectators. The week‑long celebration features seminars, concerts, performances, and culminates in the spectacular Pride Parade through the city.

Events are held at venues across Stockholm, especially Pride House for debates and workshops and Pride Park for concerts and community gatherings.


Storsjöyran Festival (Östersund) – 31 July & 1 August 2026.

The Storsjöyran Festival is one of Sweden’s largest and oldest music festivals, dating back to the 1960s. It combines international and Swedish acts with political speeches, cultural events, and a vibrant city‑wide celebration.

Held at multiple venues across Östersund, Sweden, a lakeside city of about 53,000 people. 560 kilometers, or 348 miles, northwest of Stockholm. The drive takes about 6.5 hours.


Uppsala Reggae Festival – 31 July to 1 August 2026

The Uppsala Reggae Festival is Scandinavia’s first and largest dedicated reggae festival. Founded in 2001, it brings together international reggae legends and Nordic acts for two days of music and cultural celebration. The festival marks its 25th anniversary in 2026.

Fyrishov – Uppsala, Sweden’s fourth‑largest city with about 170,000 residents. Approximately 70 kilometers, or 45 miles, north of Stockholm. The drive takes about 1 hour.

July is Sweden’s loveliest month in terms of weather.  Adding to the pleasant weather are those long days. In fact, twilight extends long into the night.

As a result, Swedish cities and towns are full of life. In fact, nearly everyone is on holiday.

But there is also a mass exodus from the urban areas. And many people head to summer homes in the countryside, where they can swim, hike, picnic, and just hang out.

In fact, the average high is in Gothenburg in July is 21 Celsius, or 70 Fahrenheit. And the average low is 13 degrees Celsius, or 55 degrees Fahrenheit.

Malmo is Sweden’s third-largest city. And it sits at the southwestern tip of Sweden. In fact, it is across the Oresund River from Copenhagen, Denmark.

Uppsala is Sweden’s fourth-largest city. In fact, it is 71 kilometers, or 44 miles, north of Stockholm. 

The average high temperature in Uppsala in July is 23 degrees Celsius, or 73 degrees Fahrenheit. And at night, the temperature drops to an average low of 12 degrees Celsius, or 54 degrees Fahrenheit.

There is an average of 6 hours of sunshine in Uppsala in July. In fact, it is the fifth sunniest month of the year. And there is an average of 11 rainy days in Uppsala in July. Furthermore, there is an average of 2.6  inches of rain.

As Sweden’s 13th largest city, Umea is the gateway to Swedish Lapland.

The average high temperature in Umea in July is 21 degrees Celsius, or 71 degrees Fahrenheit. And at night, the temperature drops to an average low of 11 degrees Celsius, or 52 degrees Fahrenheit.

There is an average of 9.5 hours of sunshine in Umea in July. In fact, it is the sunniest month of the year, along with June.

However, there is an average of three inches of rain in July.


Swedish Lapland Weather in July

Swedish Lapland is the country’s northernmost region, stretching above the Arctic Circle. It is home to vast wilderness, the Sámi people, reindeer herding traditions, and natural wonders such as the midnight sun in summer and the northern lights in winter.

Kiruna, often called the capital of Swedish Lapland, serves as the main hub for visitors, but the region is defined more by its sweeping landscapes and Arctic climate than by any single city.

The average high temperature in Lapland in July is 17 °C (63 °F). At night, the temperature drops to an average low of 9 °C (48 °F). There is an average of 9 hours of sunshine in July. It remains a bright summer month under the midnight sun. There are about 13 rainy days in July. The average humidity is around 75%.


What to Pack

Summer is the best time to visit Sweden. Because the weather is pleasant, cities are full of life.

And the further north you go, the longer the days get. In the far north, the sun hardly sets.

Therefore, bring swimming suits and sportswear. But don’t forget to pack some jackets and sweaters as it can get rather chilly at night.
