Sacramento Kings Team History
The Sacramento Kings are a professional basketball team in the United States.
The Kings compete in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
The franchise has a long history, spanning close to a century.
First of all, the team was established in Rochester, New York, in 1923. Originally, it was called the Rochester Seagrams.
In 1942, the name was changed to the Rochester Eber Seagrams. But that name didn’t last.
Likewise, the name was changed to the Rochester Royals in 1945.
When the team moved from Rochester to Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1957, it was changed to Cincinnati Royals.
Long Live the Kings!

In 1972, the franchise moved to Kansas City, Missouri. And the name changed yet again. Because home games were split between Kansas City and Omaha, Nebraska, the name was changed to Kansas City-Omaha Kings.
After two seasons, the team decided to play all home games in Kansas City. Consequently, Omaha was dropped from the name.
The Kings won one division title in Kansas City. Furthermore, they won two division titles after moving to Sacramento.
When the team moved from Kansas City to Sacramento in 1985, the name was changed to Sacramento Kings.
The franchise won its only league championship as the Rochester Royals in 1951.
The Kings are Sacramento’s only professional sports franchise. On the other hand, they are one of four NBA franchises in the state of California.
Recently, the Golden State Warriors moved from Oakland across the bay to San Francisco. And there are two teams in Southern California: the Los Angeles Clippers and the King’s arch-rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Sacramento Kings play home games at Golden 1 Center in downtown Sacramento.
In addition to hosting the Kings, the multi-purpose arena accommodates concerts, conventions, and other kinds of events. The venue opened in 2016.
