A full calendar of events and activities are planned in Anchorage, Alaska, in 2016, whether it is in the long, long days that are summer or the frosty wonderland that is winter.
1. Great Alaska Beer and Barley Wine Festival, 20 and 21 January 2017Â – You’ll be able to try beers of the Northwest and beyond with special attention to Alaskan brews.
2. Anchorage Fur Rendezvous, 24 February – 5 March 2017 – Celebrating winter like nowhere else, this is Alaska’s largest and oldest winter festival, featuring tonnes of fun events for the whole family.
3. Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, 4 March 2017 – Mushers and their dog teams will race toward the Bering Sea coast through rugged mountains and snowcapped forests in the “Last Great Race”.
4. Alyeska Slush Cup, 14 – 12 April 2017 – Usher in spring with the costumed insanity of the Slush Cup, great spring skiing and snowboarding, kids races, live music, and more.
5. Saturday and Sunday throughout summer – Browse for crafts, sample the summer flavors of Alaska, and enjoy free entertainment every Saturday and Sunday all summer long.
6. Slam’n Salm’n Derby, 9 – 18 June 2017– Drop a line into Ship Creek Alaska hoping to hook a king salmon and win cash and prizes, for the benefit for the Downtown Soup Kitchen.
7. Summer Solstice Celebration, 18 June 2017– Celebrate the longest day of the year, with 22 hours of functional daylight.
8. Anchorage Run Fest, 19Â and 20 August 2017 – Lace up your running shoes and hit the trails for a weekend of fun as the summer winds down.
9. Alaska State Fair, August to September, dates to be announced – Come see the monster veggies, view the spectacular Chugach Mountains, experience a thrilling ride, and devour Alaskan delicacies like reindeer hot dogs.
10. Great Alaska Shootout, November – dates to be announced – Watch collegiate basketball teams compete in the annual Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout tournament.
