Where to Eat in Hong Kong

BaseHall is a Hong Kong food hall located in the basement of Jardine House, one of  Hong Kong’s most iconic office buildings. There are 10 food and beverage outlets. In addition, a live DJ spins discs. And there is an uncommon commitment to sustainability.   

The Food Outlets

BaseHall is a stylish new Hong Kong food hall. It has a total of 10 food and beverage outlets. Included are eight food vendors serving a diverse selection of food. And there are two bars.

For example, five of the outlets serve national cuisines. In addition, there are vendors serving burgers, health food, and sweets.

Japanese Food

Roti Tori – A Japanese style rotisserie with a focus on chicken served with a choice of sauces and gravies. In addition: yummy sides.

Korean Food

Moyo Sik – Firstly, the menu at this Korean eatery starts with starts.

Then it moves on wth grilled and fried dishes such as bulgohgi and Korean fried chicken.

Finally, there are rice and rice cakes.

And for desserts, there are tiramisu and cream and beans.

Mexican Food

Westside Taqueria – Chef Esdras Ochoa serves mouth-watering Mexican food.

First, start with guacamole, chips and salsa, orqueso fundido.

Secondly, there is a wide range of tacos. In addition, there are salads, quesadillas, enchiladas, seafood, grilled meats, and other savoury dishes.

Finally, there are three decadent Mexican sweets.

Singaporean and Malaysian Food

Return of Lemak – Serving Straits style hawker food, this Singaporean and Malaysian-style eatery serves a limited menu of nasi lemak, nyonya laksa,  sotong youtiao, and nyonya achar.

Wash them down with Straits style drinks. Finish things off with cendoi, iced sweet coconut milk dessert with pandan jelly and red beans served over crushed ice.

Vietnamese Food

Co Thanh – This Vietnamese food outlet serves Vietnamese broths, Vietnamese baguette sandwiches, and a la carte dishes.

And they can be washed down with hot or cold beverages. In addition, you can add a shot of gin, rum, tequila, vodka, or whiskey.

Finally, make sure to save room for one of their yummy desserts!

Burgers

Honbo – In addition to 13 kinds of burgers, Honbo serves a dozen kinds of sides.

In addition to classic sides such as French fries and coleslaw, you can opt for chilli cheese fries, tater tots, crispy chicken wings – the list goes on.

Or how about a house salad? Nutritionists tell me if you pair a burger with a green salad, you’ve got a well-balanced meal!

Health Food

Treehouse – This health food eatery serves a plant-based menu with sustenable and ethnical ingredients. In fact salads and wraps are in focus.

Sweets

Cookie DPT – If you fancy something sweet, Cookie Department (DPT) serves decadent cookies fresh out of the oven.

While they are crisp on the outside, they are moist and chewy on the inside.

There are such all-time favourites as chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal raisin cookies, peanut butter cookies, and red velvet cookies.

In addition, there are limited editions, exclusive recipes, and giant cookies.

The Bars

In addition to the eight food outlets, the Hong Kong food court has two bars. And don’t worry. If you’re hungry, they both serve hearty bites to go with your gulps.

BaseHall Bar

Basehall Bar – If you’re dying of thirst, stop by this counter for a hot or cold beverage.

First, there are non-alcoholic beverages such as freshly brewed coffee, fruit blends, and smoothies.

Next, there are fine wines, Asian-inspired cocktails, and Italian spritzes.

Finally, there are, along with a grilled cheese sandwich on the side, and end the day with a toast.

Pub 1842 – The newest addition to the Young Master’s chain of taprooms, Pub 1842 pours from 10 taps.

The selection ranges from lagers, ales, and IPAs for all-day quaffing. And the signature 1842 Island IPA is included.

The pub also serves a selection of comforting pies and a rotating curry of the day.

The Concept

BaseHall is an updated version of the food court concept. In addition to the 10 food and beverage outlets, there is music. In fact, the lively venue employs a live DJ to spin the discs.

“Our aim is to incubate new F&B concepts in Hong Kong by providing a unique platform for creative chefs to develop new offerings,” says Tom Andrews, Senior Asset Manager at Hongkong Land Limited.

“We hope that BaseHall will become an exciting new dining destination for the Central office community as well as our Landmark customer base. The diverse mix of food and drinks as well as music and content will definitely create a fun space for our younger clientele.”

Corporate Social Responsability

One of the Hong Kong food hall’s key concepts is a commitment to corporate social responsibility.  For example, food packaging and cutlery are both compostable.

In addition, many of the interior design elements were recycled from other venues.

Finally, it has partnered with the St James’ Settlement food assistance programme to distribute leftover food to worthwhile causes throughout Hong Kong.

BaseHall is open from 11am till late Monday through Saturday. The Hong Kong food hall closes on Sunday.

Jardine House was formerly known as Connaught Centre. It is a short walk from the Central MTR Station.
