Halloween at Shanghai Disneyland

Shanghai Disneyland

While some Disney parks remain closed, and others are scaling back or even canceling Halloween parties, they are going full speed ahead in Paris. And Halloween at Shanghai Disneyland will be its biggest Halloween party ever!

Disney Parks in the United States

Halloween celebrations have been vastly scaled back at Disney theme parks in the United States.

To start with, Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure in Anaheim, California, remain closed because of COVID-19.

If Downtown Disney District has begun a phased reopening,  its Halloween celebrations are limited to street displays and special Halloween merchandise in the shops.

Meanwhile, all Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Parties at the Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Florida, have been canceled.

While Minnie’s Halloween at Hollywood & Vine will go ahead, there will be a few modifications.

For example, characters will practice social distancing. In other words, they will keep their distance and not visit diners at their tables.

Regarding offerings at food and beverage outlets, park-goers can expect the usual Halloween treats.

Tokyo Disneyland

Because of COVID-19, Tokyo Disneyland announced on 9 July 2020 that almost all special events would be canceled through March 2021.

And that includes Disney Halloween, which was scheduled to run from 11 September through 1 November.

Hong Kong Disneyland

Halloween celebrations at Hong Kong Disneyland were scheduled to start on 12 September. And they would continue through 31 October.

However, a third wave of COVID-19 infections forced the park to close on 15 July. And it only reopened on 28 September.

So far, there has been no mention of Halloween parties. I’ve reached out to the park’s public relations office. And I await their response.

Paris Disneyland

Unlike its counterparts in the United States and Japan, Paris Disneyland has gone ahead with a full-fledged celebration of Halloween.

In fact, Disney’s 2020 Halloween Festival got underway on 26 September at the Paris theme park.  And it will continue until 1 November.

Most of the events taking place in previous years will take place this year.

In addition, there will be Selfie Spots for the first time. And these will give Disney fans a chance to take pictures with Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and other Disney friends.

But rather than wearing their usual outfits, Disney characters will wear Halloween costumes. And they will be ready to pose for photographs at various locations around the park.

Shanghai Disneyland

Halloween celebrations get underway at Shanghai Disneyland on 5 October. And they continue through 1 November.

If celebrations have been scaled back at Disney theme parks in Orlando and canceled altogether in Tokyo, Shanghai Disneyland is pulling out all the stops.

In fact, organizers are promising “the spookiest season of them all … with exciting events, hauntingly-fun Halloween parties, trick-or-treating, decorations, and a host of not-so-scary surprises”.

Park-goers are being encouraged to “wear their most creative Halloween costumes as they gather together and prepare for an authentic seasonal celebration unlike any other”.

Daily Events

There will too many events each day to list them all. So here are a few highlights …

  • Park-goers can hunt for trick or treats at locations throughout the park. And they will receive sweet treats from Cast Members if they say the magic words.
  • Disney Villains will make occasional appearances on the Enchanted Storybook Castle balcony in the all-new Villain Balcony Walk.
  • As dusk falls each evening, Donald’s Halloween Treat Cavalcade will parade down Main Street U.S.A.
  • There will be five different Party Zones across the park each night. And they will feature live DJs spinning the discs. More importantly, there will be Selfie Spots with Disney Villains on the final night,

Two Day Halloween Party

New this year will be a  two-day Halloween party on 30 and 31  October. In fact, there will be character encounters, dance parties, and live music.

And spectacular fireworks displays will light up the skies overhead before the park closes both nights!

Needless to say, food and beverage outlets will be serving everything from sweet treats to afternoon teas to four-course set meals.

And shops will be selling all manner of souvenirs. Among the most popular will surely be costumes of such popular Disney villains as Maleficent and the Evil Queen.

Shanghai Disneytown

Disneytown is a shopping, dining, and entertainment complex at the Shanghai Disney Resort in  Shanghai.

In fact, it is the Shanghai Disney Resort’s equivalent of the Downtown Disney in Anaheim or Disney Springs near Orlando,

Along with Shanghai Disneyland, Disneytown is holding a full schedule of Halloween activities. For example, there are costume parties, trick or treat parades, and Halloween decorations.

One of the highlights will be a Wicked Celebration Party. In fact, it is being held on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays between 16 October and 1  November 1. However, it will not be held on 30 and 31 October,
