The San Gennaro Festival has been celebrated in the streets of Little Italy in Lower Manhattan since 1926, when Italian immigrants held a ceremony to honour San Gennaro, the Patron Saint of Napels, Italy.

The San Gennaro Festival has evolved into one of the Big Apple’s biggest street parties of the year.

Mulberry Street and surrounding streets and alleys are lined with stalls selling all manner of mouth-watering Italian dishes. There are also games of chance, entertainment, and various other festive activities.

The festival reaches fever pitch on weekends, with chock-a-block crowds. Pigging out is one of the favoured activities.
