Philippine Travelogue: An All You Can Eat Buffet with Healthful Choices

Cebu Adventure Part Nine

Michael Taylor spends two nights at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Cebu. On his first day, he lunches at Feria, the hotel’s all day restaurant. He finds hot and cold dishes that are both yummy and healthful.

Staying healthy at the Radisson Blu Hotel is not as much of a challenge as it would be at many hotels. The lunch and dinner buffets at Feria – the hotel’s all day restaurant – are particularly strong in terms of healthful – yet yummy – choices.

To start with, there are fully three salad stations: Mediterranean, Western, and Filipino. The salads are stuffed full of healthful ingredients such as eggplant, cucumber, tropical fruits – the list goes on.You’ll find have no problem meeting your recommended eight to nine servings of fruit and vegetables at one sitting.!

You will also find stations for pizza, home baked breads, Western style hot dishes, grilled meats and fish, noodles, Indian, Chinese, and Japanese.

And, of course, there is a dessert station, where you can dip fruit in chocolate or indulge in ice cream, cakes, and other yummy delights.

I want to emphasize that this is NOT a health food restaurant! If you are NOT watching your weight, you will NOT be disappointed!

The point is, you have a choice. Because I AM watching my weight, I appreciate the fact that there are  so many yummy – and very healthful  – choices on offer. If you want to pig out, however, you can do that, too.

Do It Yourself Pasta

As much as I like the salad bars, I like the Do It Yourself pasta station even more.

You don’t really do it yourself. You tell the chef how you want it done, starting with your choice of red or white sauce followed by several other basic ingredients. Then she (or he – depending on who’s on duty) does it for you.

I opt for penne with red sauce, olives, onions, garlic, fresh tomatoes, and bacon. I am NOT disappointed! I love Italian food, and this is about as good as it gets.

I plan on just sampling it, but end up finishing the whole plate!

Korean Food on Tap

The menu changes day to day, with an extended selection of Chinese dishes one day, Italian dishes the next day, and seafood , prime rib, or international dishes the day after that.

The hotel has hired a new Korean chef, and a Korean menu will served on Mondays starting 10 June 2013.

If you prefer to order ala carte, choices run from appetizers and soup to sandwiches, mains, make your own pasta, make your own pizza, and desserts.
