Thailand: Hotel Review, Cool Sophistication in the Heart of Bangkok

Travel Blogger Match-up Part Eight

After spending the weekend at a friend’s home on the outskirts of Bangkok, Thailand, Michael Taylor moves back into town, where he spends two nights at Hansar Bangkok, a sophisticated boutique hotel in the Lumpini district.

Hansar Bangkok is a stylish boutique hotel just half a block from the Ratchadamri Skytrain station. It is surrounded by five star hotels – the St Regis, Four Seasons, and Erawan Hyatt are all with a short walk of the hotel.

It is also a short both from some of the Big Mango’s top shopping malls.

Rising 18 storeys above Bangkok’s tony Lumpini district, Hansar Bangkok exudes the cool sophistication I have come to expect of hotels and resorts in Thailand. The lobby and other public areas are finished in natural wood, stone, and muted tones.

Hansar Bangkok has 94 suites, five food and beverage outlets, a well equipped gym, an outdoor infinity swimming pool, and a fabulous spa – more on that later.

There are also facilities for meetings and events.

I really don’t like hotels that charge for using the Internet, and even having to log on can be an annoyance. So I appreciated the complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the hotel.

You don’t even need a password or any codes to log on, and there aren’t any annoying advertisments. You just plug your computer in, turn it on – just like at home.

Unique Selling Proposition

I like to swim, and I don’t like swimming pools with odd shapes because it makes doing laps quite complicated.

So if I had to name just one thing that I like best about this hotel – what would bring me back on my next trip to Bangkok – it would be the lengthy infinity swimming pool. Doing laps in it was a pure joy.

Because the swimming pool in the shade most of the time, the water is delightlfully cool. That – together with its regular shape and the extra long length – makes it the perfect swimming pool for serious swimmers.

I just did laps for 35 minutes, and if I didn’t have to check out of the hotel at 2 pm, I’d still be doing laps as I type.

Room with a View

I am housed in an 82 square metre Vertigo Suite on the 12th floor. I can see the race course over the roof of the low rise Four Seasons Hotel next door.

I have a spacious living room with two work stations, a bedroom with a platform king sized bed, and a his and hers bathroom cum walk in closet with a large bathtub in the centre and a spacious shower.

The bathroom is, in fact, larger than the living room of my flat in Hong Kong.
