Dodgers Team Overview
The Los Angeles Dodgers are a professional baseball team in the United States. The Dodgers compete in the West division of the National League of Major League Baseball (MLB). They were originally based in Brooklyn, New York. They moved to California in 1958. Keep reading for the team’s fascinating history and some key travel tips!
Dodgers Team History

The Brooklyn Dodgers were established in 1883 in Brooklyn, New York, where they played until 1957. But they weren’t always called the Dodgers.
As one of the oldest professional baseball teams in the United States, the team was originally called the Brooklyn Grays. They changed their name to the Brooklyn Atlantics in 1884, when they joined the American Association.
The team underwent several name changes over the years. Some of their names included the Brooklyn Bridegrooms, Brooklyn Grooms, Brooklyn Superbas, Brooklyn Robins, and Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers.
A popular unofficial nickname for the team was Dem Bums!
They finally settled on the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1932 because Brooklynites had to dodge trolleys on their way to watch baseball games at  Ebbets Field.

The Brooklyn Dodgers made history in 1947, when they signed Jackie Robinson, who was the first African-American to play for a major American baseball team in the modern era.
Before that, professional black athletes in the United States usually had to play in segregated, all-black leagues.
Unfortunately, Jackie was often mistreated by fans and players on other baseball teams. But he went on to be recognized as one of the best baseball players in history.

The Brooklyn Dodgers won only one World Series Championship, defeating the New York Yankees four games to three in the best-of-seven series in 1955.
The victory was especially meaningful to Brooklyn fans because the Yankees had already beaten the Dodgers five times in the World Series. According to Sports Illustrated, there was dancing in the streets of Brooklyn following the hair-raising victory!
But it was to be a Pyrrhic victory for Brooklynites because the Dodgers – as well as the New York Giants – were destined to move to California after the end of the following baseball season.
Apparently, the city of New York wasn’t willing to build new stadiums for the teams.

The Brooklyn Dodgers were to be renamed the Los Angeles Dodgers. And the New York Giants would become the San Francisco Giants.
The Dodgers have 15 West division titles, 21 National League pennants, and six World Series, including the one in Brooklyn.
Dodger Stadium – Home of the Los Angeles Dodgers

After moving to Los Angeles, the Dodgers were renamed the Los Angeles Dodgers. They played at Los Angeles Memorial Stadium for four seasons.
The Los Angeles Dodgers moved to their current home, Dodger Stadium, in 1962.
Located in the Elysian Park section of Los Angeles, it is the third oldest baseball stadium in the United States after Fenway Park in Boston and Wrigley Field in Chicago.
As the largest baseball stadium in the world, Dodger Stadium seats 56,000 baseball fans.
Where to Watch the Los Angeles Dodgers
There are numerous sports bars scattered around Greater Los Angeles where Dodgers fans gather to watch games. There are also a few sports bars in other parts of the country that are popular with Dodger fans.
For convenience, this listing is divided into three sections: Los Angeles, cities near Los Angeles, and cities in other parts of the country.
Always make sure to call ahead or check social media to make sure that games will be shown.
Also, bars sometimes close and fans sometimes migrate to other bars, so it never hurts to double check before heading to the bar.

Traveling to Los Angeles for a Dodgers Game?
If you are planning a trip to Southern California to attend a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball game, some travel tips follow.
First, a look at airports. Then a look at hotels.
Airports Near Dodger Stadium

Dodger Stadium is located in the Elysian Park section of Los Angeles. And the Los Angeles area has several airports. So which airport should you fly into?
If you’re flying in specifically to attend a Dodgers game, it’s really no contest. Hollywood Burbank Airport is the obvious choice. It is smaller, less crowded, and closest to the stadium.
The only drawback is that it is served by a limited number of airlines and they fly to only a limited number of destinations.
Los Angeles International Airport is served by numerous airlines and they fly to countless destinations throughout the United States and the rest of the world. But it’s huge, confusing, and traffic to and from the airport can be congested.
Long Beach Airport, John Wayne Airport in Orange Country, and Ontario Airport are small and convenient, but their flight options are also limited.
These airports would only make sense if you had other things to do in Southern California. For example, if you want to visit Disneyland, John Wayne Airport would be a good choice.
Finally, there is Hawthorne Municipal Airport. Generally used for general aviation, it is served by only one airline at the time of publication: Advanced Air.
But if you’re lucky enough to live in Crescent City, Merced, or Mammonth Lakes, it would make an interesting choice. Aircraft are relatively small, seating about 30 passengers. And the terminal at Hawthorne Municipal Airport small and uncrowded.

Go Dodgers! Now I know where to find the diehard fans!
Are they gonna do it?
I’m always amazed by how many sports bars there are around the US (and sometimes the world) who are so dedicated to a sports team. I haven’t come across a Dodgers bar in Colorado yet though.
Interesting! I’ll have to look into that!
I’m a Dodgers fan second to my Braves so I’m excited for them. Great options to grab a good drink and bites and watch the games!
I’m just hoping it goes to seven games!
Enjoyed reading about the Dodger’s team history and where to watch the LA Dodgers. Surprised at the number of sports bars in the US. Thanks for this informative blog post.
I always wondered where the Dodgers got their name. I was delighted to learn it was because of fans dodging streetcars on their ways to games!
I love going to sports bars, they’re so much fun, so much. I would love to go to a dodgers sport bar, I can imagine the vibe there…So cool.
Me too! I love the sense of camaraderie at sports bars!
Sports bar are definitely a great place to meet fellow fans and enjoy the hype watching the games. Those are all wonderful selection you’ve shared with us
Thank you! It’s much more fun watching a game with other fans at a sports bar than alone at home !
